Hello Everyone. It is great to see you today. Things have been going well for me and I couldn’t be happier. I am so ecstatic about the amount of support my local and online friends have given me regarding my book, Awakened by Fate. I really appreciate this.
Today I wanted to share with you something that means a great deal to me. I have always had somewhat of a green thumb, having had plants most of my adult life. This year we put in a garden and planted vegetables. We have tomatoes, spaghetti squash, carrots, garlic, and peppers growing.
We started with seeds, but most of them didn’t sprout or got eaten. Our carrots and Squash did grow. Now we have a huge plant that is taking up most of the space. We are expecting much produce from it. We planted the other plants which we got from Lowe’s. They are doing very well.
In years past, we have grown veggies. We had success with our tomato and pepper plants. We have to pay attention so that the critters don’t eat the ripe produce before we can pick them. That is what happened last time with our peppers.
This year, I’m really babying the plants. I get up and water each morning. It is fun to see how much they grow overnight. It is a miracle. Our carrots tops have been shooting up for a while now. See above in the featured image. They are located below the big spaghetti squash leaves.
We are planning to start up a new batch of veggies by planting the seeds into small pots and letting them sprout indoors before we plant them in the garden. We don’t like to use inorganic methods to control the critters. I have used things such as oregano and thyme to help ward them off. It seems to be working on the plants.
I did some research on some organic methods for the garden. One suggestion is to spread mulch around the plants about an inch or two deep. It is said this will ward off weeds because their seeds won’t get the sunlight to germinate. Examples are shredded leaves, compost, and even newspaper.
Another suggestion is to use organic fertilizer. Manure is a good choice, although you can get organic fertilizers at a gardening store.
Another good gardening tip is to rotate your crops in your garden. It isn’t good to plant tomatoes in the same spot year after year. Also, it is helpful to weed daily. Weeds attract pests so keeping a weed-free garden will keep your plants from being eaten. Also, diseases spread through dead fallen foliage, so this is another reason to keep your garden clean.
It is best to water your plants at the root as opposed to above. It is said that mildew can result. And don’t overcrowd your garden as they need space to grow and mature.
It is helpful to plant plants that attract healthy insects such as bees. Good plants to consider are Marigold and Zinnia. you can also purchase ladybugs at the gardening store. Ladybugs can ward off harmful critters.

We are very happy with the garden. We are planning to make many good meals from them and what we can’t eat we will share with friends. I am already tasting a great spaghetti dinner, complete with our tomatoes, garlic, and spaghetti squash. Maybe even a little habanero to spice things up.
I would like to hear and see pictures of your experiences with gardening.
Thank you for stopping by today. Be sure to visit next week when I’ll be presenting my review for Lacey London‘s ‘Anxiety Girl’.
Until, next time,
Namaste,
Lynn

I love to grow vegetables, herbs and edible flowers and lots of pollinator plants. I grow most of my vine crops vertically to save space…and I’ve also written books…herbal fiction (mystery & romance with lots of herb info and gardening thrown in!)
