Before I get rolling here, I’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to Lynn Lawler for asking me to write a guest post for her blog. She was kind enough to conduct a Q&A session with me on The Lesbian Book Nook on Facebook, and she made it interactive and fun. So, it doesn’t take very long to come to the conclusion that Lynn isn’t just incredibly talented; she’s also a genuinely nice person.
Lynn asked me to write about myself and the two books that I released on Amazon in February. I was raised by one of those good ole southern mothers who taught me that it was impolite to talk about myself. But, she never said anything about not giving a short description of the lesbian romance books that I’d write later in life, so I hope I’m not going to bad manners jail for this entry.
I initially wrote my first book, A Time of Perfect Change, over the course of a week. I’ve always had several stories going at one time, but I’d get distracted and forget to go back to them. This time, I wanted a beginning and an end, and I told myself I was going to do it. So, I sat down, started typing, and the characters immediately came to life for me.
The story is set in California, where Taylor and Kaitlyn meet at an Educator’s conference during the summer. In what seems to be the case with lots of us, the two fell for each other quickly, and that’s where things started to get more interesting. They navigate divorces, family issues, exes, next-door neighbors, and a grumpy cat, but they stick together. They learn that anything worth having is worth working for when you love each other.
I finished the book and was proud of myself for finally accomplishing my goal, but there was a nagging feeling that the story wasn’t finished. A month or so passed, and I’d find myself thinking about the couple and where their lives had taken them. I realized I wasn’t going to be able to get it out of my mind until I picked up where I left off in the first book.
In my second book, “Changes Still to Come,” life goes on for the couple. Their group of family and friends becomes a wider network of people that form a tighter circle of love and support. As unexpected events happen to turn their lives totally upside down, they learn those are the times that they need that circle even more.
I’ve always been a fan of happily ever after stories. I don’t believe that exes have to hate each other, and I don’t believe that family is just the group that you’re born into. I love these characters, and I’m working on the continuation of their story, which I hope to have completed in the next year.
I will be releasing another group of characters in a new series sometime in the next few months. I hope that everyone will love and enjoy reading about their lives and that the reception for this group is as welcoming as it was for Taylor, Kaitlyn, and their whole gang.
As for me and my life, I live in Atlanta, Georgia, with my wife, a menagerie of pets, and one last kid still at home, but preparing to leave the nest soon. When that happens, I have plans to walk around with no pants on, and never, ever again spend my free time turning off unused lights in the house. I’ll probably continue to do a little more writing in between those two riveting exercises in danger.
